The Saarbrücker Zeitung group with over 2,700 staff is a media group whose portfolio combines dailies, free papers, postal services, telephone books and yellow pages, online portals and radio shares with IT services for publishers and translation and document management services.

As the leading daily paper in the Saarland, the “Saarbrücker Zeitung” has a print run of around 132,000 copies reaching approximately 399,000 readers. The “Trierischer Volksfreund” is published in Trier (ca. 79,400 copies reaching 255,000 readers), the “Lausitzer Rundschau” in Cottbus (ca. 75,700 copies reaching 258,000 readers) and the “Pfälzischer Merkur” in Zweibrücken with around 6,800 copies and a reach of 22,000 readers.

Free Wednesday and weekend papers and brochure holders are published with a weekly print run of 1.9 million copies in all domestic markets. The titles in the Saarland include “Wochenspiegel”, the “Saarland-Journal” and “Die Woch”. The group also holds shares in the media service provider circ IT, a supplier of SAP consultancy, online services and computer centre services for media companies.
The subsidiary AMPLEXOR is a leading provider of digital global content management solutions with translation, digital experience and content solutions. The company is engaged worldwide for the life science, aerospace & defence, energy & environment, finance, automotive & manufacturing industries, as well as the public sector.

The majority shareholder (ca. 56 %) of Saarbrücker Zeitung Verlag und Druckerei GmbH is the Rheinische Post Media Group, one of Germany’s top five newspaper publishers in terms of circulation. Its flagship is the “Rheinische Post”, which reaches around 814,000 readers with a print run of ca. 290,000. With RP Online, the media group operates one of the online portals with the greatest reach among Germany’s daily papers. In addition, the company holds shares in television and radio stations as well as seven publishers of advertising papers with a weekly print run of around 4.3 million copies. High-performance printing centres provide the market with print products at the latest state of the art. The DVV Media Group publishes over 50 newspapers, magazines and reference books revolving around logistics, transport and shipping for the media group.

Circa 28 % of the shares in Saarbrücker Zeitung Verlag und Druckerei GmbH are held by the Gesellschaft für staatsbürgerliche Bildung Saar mbH (GsB), wherein several foundations are combined.
In addition to these, the investment company of Saarbrücker Zeitung’s staff and pensioners hold around 16 % of the shares.

The publishing house and editors of the “Saarbrücker Zeitung” perceive this involvement in the organization of the Franco-German Journalism Prize as an opportunity for promoting and intensifying the intellectual exchange with neighbouring France.
